Under the deodars since 1957
Deodar House School is a co-educational ICSE day school on Rajpur Road, Dehradun: Nursery to Class XII, 1,142 students, four houses, and a campus of fourteen wooded acres.
Nursery to Class XII, one campus
Each stage has its own building, its own head, and its own timetable. Children move up without changing schools.
Pre-Primary
Nursery, LKG, and UKG in the Birch Wing. Two teachers to a class of 24, half-day timetable, a garden of their own.
Primary
Reading hour every morning, weekly library and pottery periods, and games on the lower field four days a week.
Middle
Subject teaching begins, with lab work from Class VI, a second language choice of Hindi or Sanskrit, and house duties.
Senior
ICSE at Class X and ISC at Class XII under CISCE, with science, commerce, and humanities streams from Class XI.
Four houses, one ledger
Every child from Class I is placed in a house on admission. Houses compete through the year for the Kala Cup, awarded on Founders' Day.
House points are posted on the main notice board every Friday and carried in the school diary.
What fourteen acres hold
Kala Memorial Library
22,000 volumes, forty reading desks, and a librarian who has held the post since 2003.
Six laboratories
Physics, chemistry, and biology labs for seniors, a junior science room, and two computer labs.
Two playing fields
A full cricket ground with practice nets on the lower field and a 200 m track on the upper field.
Music and art block
A choir room with two pianos, tabla and sitar sets, and a painting studio facing the deodar line.
Eleven bus routes
School buses cover Rajpur, Dalanwala, Clement Town, Prem Nagar, and seven other routes, each with an attendant.
Infirmary on campus
A four-bed infirmary with a full-time nurse and a doctor on call from CMI Hospital, 2 km away.

Opened in 1957 with 41 pupils and three classrooms.
ICSE pass rate, 2025
All 121 candidates passed; 44 scored above 90 percent.

The Old Deodarians' Association has met every December since 1971.

Forms available at the school office and on this site from 9 am. Nursery, LKG, and Class I intake; other classes against vacancies.
Winter timings begin
Assembly moves to 8:40 am. Buses run 30 minutes later on all eleven routes until 15 February.
Founders' Day on the main field
The 69th Founders' Day: prize giving at 10 am, the Kala Cup at noon, open campus for parents until 4 pm.

My son joined in Class III from Delhi. Within a term he knew every teacher by name and had been put to work in the house garden. That told me enough.
Deodar House taught me to keep a notebook, finish a season, and speak from a stage. I have used all three every year since.
